The old boy

This is the story of a child ordinary like all children and special like every child.

The story of a child who grew up wearing the gray sadness of a borrowed coat that was too big for him. Everyone called him Old Boy - perhaps because he was the poorest and saddest of all the children.

So at some point he decided that if you're called a Paleopedo, you should become one. But are you really... old boy?

A story inspired by the true stories of musicians of El Sistema and the internationally renowned symphony orchestra "Bolivar" of Venezuela.
A story about faith in man and humanity.
A story about the power of art and culture against poverty and social exclusion.

A few words about El Sistema (The System): Years ago, in Caracas, a musician and economist, José Antonio Abreu, dreamed that music could change the lives of poor and marginalized children. He decided to live his dream: in 1975, together with volunteer teachers and a first group of 11 children, the first orchestra was made. His plan, adopted immediately and since then supported by the governments of Venezuela, known as El Sistema, is not only a different way of learning music, but a powerful weapon against child and youth crime, against poverty and social exclusion. Today, the seed has as "fruits" more than 150 children's and youth orchestras - 90 of them symphonic. Over 500,000 children across Venezuela are members of an orchestra. Also a "fruit" of El Sistema is the Simon Bolivar Orchestra, the world-renowned symphony orchestra of Venezuela. The principles of El Sistema are now implemented in over 50 countries around the world. El Sistema is a vision that became a reality, an experience, a life, proving that music... saves.

The book was awarded an illustrator and writer award with colorful illustration for the illustration and for the text from the Greek Children's Book Circle Awards 2014.
