Once upon a time there was a Milia, who loved a little boy very much.
Thus begins one of the classic illustrated stories, written by Shel Silverstein. The Tree That Gave is possibly the best-known work of the author and is published in a collector's edition and in a new translation by Angelos Angelidis - Maria Angelidou. It was first published in 1964 by Harper & Row and to date has been translated into over 30 languages worldwide.
The story refers to the relationship between an apple tree and a child throughout their lives. When the child is small, he visits the apple tree every day, swings in its branches and rests in its shade. Growing up, however, he demands more and more from her, while spending less and less time with her...
Every day the child visited her, gathered her apples, climbed her trunk, made a swing in her branches. And Milia was happy... As the child grew, he kept asking for more and more, again and again... And the tree gave, gave and gave... and his heart rejoiced.
An allegory with multiple meanings for readers of all ages.
