Devastated by a personal tragedy, Lena leaves the school where she works and France and takes refuge in India, in a village on the Bay of Bengal, where, while swimming one morning, she is swept away by sea currents and is in danger of drowning. A little girl playing on the beach with his kite rushes to help her.
In what way will Lena be able to express her gratitude to the little one? Ten-year-old Lalita works in a restaurant, she doesn't know how to read or write. With the help of a group of girls who defend women's rights, Lena puts forward an ambitious plan: to build a school for all the children in the area - something they have been deprived of until now.
Thus, in the heart of a country like India, where nothing is simple, begins a great adventure where hope, disappointment, determination against deep-rooted traditions coexist, driven by the dream, which is nothing but to change really the fate and life of these children.
Leticia Kolobani picks up again the thread of "Braid" in a moving, deep and visionary book. (From the presentation on the back cover of the book)
"A great novel by a woman, feminist, fighting and courageous." (Valerie Gans, Madame Figaro)
"A touching story that speaks to the heart from the first to the last page." (Francois Busnel, La Grande Librairie)
"Outstanding epic novel." (Julia Moklhou, France Inter)
