Black winter in Bologna

Italy, 1944. Bologna is experiencing its "blackest" winter. The city is under German occupation and suffocating in the grip of frost, wounded by the bombings. Inspector De Luca feels every day that he is living a descent into Hell; he now serves in the Political Police of the Italian Social Republic, the idiosyncratic fascist state based in Salo, founded by Mussolini in Northern Italy, in collaboration with Nazi Germany.
