The box

The main character of this story, Arif, a sixth grader, thinks he is an alien… with three antennae for eyes, a satellite nose, six proboscis ears for pulling, and a cervical landing strip for earth cuffs and pencils. His classmates act hostile, but everything starts to change when he forgets his pencil at school and they put it in the classroom's lost box.
Arif has three consecutive dreams in which he himself is inside the box, tiny, little shorter than a paper clip, like a lost object.
In each dream he talks to an object (eraser, pencil...) belonging to a classmate. So, in this strange way, Arif learns details of his classmates' lives and feels like he knows them… even a little, even though they hadn't even exchanged a word up until that point!
