At the Battle of Marathon

"The Persians are coming!" shouts Aetion one morning to his friends, Glaucus and Leagros, and since then everyone's life changes. Soon the Athenians, armed, leave their city behind to face the enemy. So are Glaucus, Leagros and Aetionas who are determined to help. And to see up close, with their own eyes, to hear with their own ears, what will happen, how it will happen and who will be the winner on the plain of Marathon.

A comic book for children, based on the historical events as we know them from the ancient authors, the starting point of a series with historical themes, inspired by ancient Greece. This first book in the series tells the story of the world-historical Battle of Marathon through the eyes of three young Athenians of the time. The children closely watch the stormy meetings of the Council Church, learn the tragic news of the fall of Eretria, watch the adults prepare for war, and finally sneak out of their home and follow the army as scouts. There, in the camp, they will live the life of soldiers, make a new four-legged friend, learn who the runner Pheidippides saw in the mountains of Arcadia and see up close the Athenian phalanx attacking and crushing the Persian hordes. When they return to Athens, and after getting rid of their angry mothers, they will enjoy the joy of victory with the adults.

At the end of the book there is a small "epimeter", starring "Katerina", a modern-day scientist, who talks about theoretical questions of history, such as how much of a storyteller Herodotus was or what would have happened if the Persians had won.
