In the Ottoman Thessaloniki of 1885, an innocent joke, a few glances and some old secrets are enough to start a love affair between a naive and dreamy man and a dynamic woman. George I reigns in Athens, trade in Ermoupolis and fog in Thessaloniki.
The two will travel to old Greece and then return to these places, which years later, through the hot blood of wars, will be called New Countries.
"Old and New Countries" is a novel about women suffocated by the social collar, about awkward men and mute maids in the belle époque years, the era called gifted by those with wealth and power.
It is also a novel about the coastal lighthouses that illuminate the darkness, about the ritual of water and the sea, about Jules Verne and his books, which illustrate the wildness of the imagination, about the erotic human gaze but also the authoritative gaze. , for what, finally, old ones triumph and for what new ones have not yet articulated their name.
