A short history of the world

Ernst Gombrich, one of the pre-eminent theorists of the twentieth century, achieved what even today seems incredible: to tell the history of mankind, from the Stone Age to the age of nuclear energy, briefly, comprehensively, and convincingly . The book was first published in Vienna in 1935. In 2001, after the death of the author, this volume that had been sold in hundreds of thousands of copies throughout the world and had already been translated into 21 languages, was re-released in a new edition, with corrections and additions by Gombrich himself, and with a foreword by his granddaughter, Leonie Gombrich, describing the process of writing it from the family's side.
